THE JUDICIAL WATCH
CASE FILE CRIB SHEET: THE MUELLER INVESTIGATION

The Robert Mueller Investigation Case File Timeline -- at a Glance…
  • Today, the Mueller Report was released by Attorney General Bill Barr. You can read it here.
Neither Mueller, the Obama FBI, DOJ, CIA, State Department, nor the Deep State ever had a good-faith basis to pursue President Trump on Russia collusion. Russia collusion wasn’t just a hoax, it is a criminal abuse, which is why Judicial Watch has fought and will continue to fight for Russiagate documents in federal court.

The targeting of President Trump served to protect Hillary Clinton and her enablers/co-conspirators in Obama administration from prosecution. Attorney General Barr can begin restoring the credibility of the Justice Department by finally initiating a thorough investigation of the Clinton emails and related pay-to-play scandals and the abuses behind the targeting of President Trump.
[Judicial Watch] did the work that the mainstream media was unwilling to do, what Congress was unwilling to do and the Obama administration was unwilling to look into.

JW Actions Taken

Judicial Watch has pursued more than 40 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuits trying to get to the bottom of the Russiagate hoax. Dozens explicitly deal with the illicit targeting and other abuses of President Trump, and another ten lawsuits specifically deal with the Robert Mueller investigation. Judicial Watch has been doing the heavy lifting for the American people that the Congress, the Justice Department and the media refuse to do. There follows a partial list of the specific Mueller-related actions taken and the results achieved by Judicial Watch:
  • October 5, 2017: Judicial Watch files a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice concerning the budget and administrative records of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, including a copy of each document scoping, regulating, or governing the Special Counsel’s Office appointed under the leadership of Mueller III. The appointment memo, was finally released under court order on April 2, 2018, and the Justice Department later said it would provide previously withheld material from the heavily redacted August 2, 2017memorandumin which Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein granted broad authority to Special Counsel Mueller three months after Mueller’s appointment. The Justice Department notice came almost immediately after an explosive May. 4, 2018 District Court hearing in which Judge T.S. Ellis III demanded the full memorandum be made available to the courtin two weeks. Click here and here for press releases.
  • November 7, 2017: Judicial Watch files a FOIA lawsuit against the Justice Department for all records of communications relating to former FBI Director James Comey’s controversial testimony before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, which reportedly was ‘closely coordinated’ with Robert Mueller. Click here for press release.
  • December 14, 2017: JW files a FOIA lawsuit against the FBI for records about the removal and reassignment of Peter Strzok, a former deputy to the assistant director for counterintelligence at the FBI, from the special counsel’s investigative team led by former FBI director Robert Mueller. Strzok reportedly was removed from the Mueller investigative team in August and reassigned to a human resources position after it was discovered that he and another FBI lawyer, Lisa Page, who worked for FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe and with whom Strzok was carrying on an extramarital affair, “exchanged text messages during the Clinton investigation and campaign season in which they expressed anti-Trump sentiments and other comments that appeared to favor Clinton.” Click here for press release.
  • January 23, 2018: JW announces that Justice Department refuses to release the proposed budget of Robert Mueller’s Special Counsel Office. The Justice Department asserts the Mueller budget information cannot be released because its release could interfere with “law enforcement proceedings.” Click here for press release.
  • January 31, 2018: JW files a FOIA lawsuit against the Justice Department for FBI documents on Comey’s book deal and his coordination with Mueller on testimony he [Comy] gave before Senate Intelligence Committee. A month after President Trump fired Comey on May 9, 2017, the former FBI director provided highly controversial testimony before the Committee about the circumstances that led to his dismissal, the ongoing investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and his handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s illicit email server. During thattestimony, Comey admitted he leaked information about his conversations with President Donald Trump in order to get a special prosecutor appointed. Click here for press release.
  • April 20, 2018: JW files a FOIA lawsuit against the Justice Department for all records of communications relating to former FBI Director James Comey’s providing memoranda of his conversations with President Trump to Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his team. Click here for press release.
  • April 30, 2018: JW uncoversnew emailsfrom the Justice Department in its January 31, 2018 FOIA lawsuit that former FBI Director James Comey was advised by FBI officials in May 2017 to consult with Special Counsel Robert Mueller prior to testifying before any congressional committees regarding Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election and his firing as FBI director. According to numerousnewsreports, Comey met directly with Mueller previous to his June 8, 2017,testimonybefore the Senate Intelligence Committee. Sources said that Comey’sopening statementand subsequent testimony were coordinated with Mueller. Click here for press release.
  • June 19, 2018: JW files a FOIA lawsuit asking the court to compel the Department of Justice to produce “all text messages to or from Justice official Andrew Weissmann” regarding President Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Weissmann was then a senior deputy for Special Counsel Robert Mueller and a former chief of the Justice Department criminal fraud division. Weissmann’s objectivity in Mueller’s investigation was called into question in December 2017 when a Judicial Watch FOIA lawsuit uncovered an email Weissmann wrote praising former acting Attorney General Sally Yates for defying Trump on enforcement of the president’s so-called travel ban. Click here for press release.
  • July 2, 2018: Judicial Watch files a FOIA lawsuit against the Justice Department for all records of correspondence and communications between the Office of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and the Office of Special Counsel Robert Mueller concerning, regarding, or relating to the April 9, 2018 raids on the office and hotel room of Michael Cohen, then personal attorney to President Trump. Click here for press release.
  • July 31, 2018: JW releases 14 pages of FBI documents concerning the assignment of former FBI Deputy Assistant Director Peter Strzok to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s operation, showing that Strzok insisted on retaining his FBI security clearance before moving to the Mueller team and confirming that Strzok played a pivotal role in the flawed Hillary Clinton email investigation. Judicial Watch’s lawsuit also seeks Justice official Bruce Ohr’s records of communications around the time of Trump’s declassification announcement. Ohr, once the fourth-ranking official at Justice, was a key conduit between anti-Trump dossier author Christopher Steele and the FBI. Click here for press release.

  • March 26, 2019: In a special edition of “Inside Judicial Watch,” JW President Tom Fitton discusses the Mueller special counsel report clearing President Trump of collusion with Russia during the 2016 election. Fitton says, in part: “There was a coup attempt to overthrow the president of the United States, and the Mueller operation was part of it. Regarding JW’s role in bringing the truth to light during the two-year Mueller investigation, Fitton reflects: “It really is amazing that Judicial Watch has had this impact on history and it has taken this leadership role in holding our government to account…And, we are not going to stop until we get accountability…Judicial Watch never took its eye off the ball. From the moment of Mueller’s appointment, we knew something bad was happening, and we began demanding accountability and suing for information to highlight the deep state attack. The question was, were we going to allow bureaucrats and political operatives to overthrow a president? Judicial Watch played a key role in stopping it.” Click here for the video.
  • March 10, 2019: Tom Fitton joins Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures” to discuss how former Justice Department official Bruce Ohr’s closed-door testimony, released recently, in Fitton’s words, “confirms to a shocking degree how closely the Justice Department and the FBI were working with this Clinton operative Christopher Steele.” Regarding JW’s role in ferreting out the truth of Steele’s relationship with the FBI and Justice Department, Fitton concludes: “Frankly this is kind of follow-the-leader with Congress because Judicial Watch first released the document showing 60 communications between Ohr and Steele. This ‘Get Trump’ conspiracy run out of the DOJ and the Mueller investigation deserves a lot of attention.” Click here for video.
  • March 1, 2019: JW President Tom Fitton joins Congressman Devin Nunes and Byron York of the Washington Examiner at the Conservative Political Action Conference to discuss the Mueller probe. Fitton says: “Judicial Watch is getting these documents out. The trouble with Congress is they can get documents but frequently can’t release them. Judicial Watch uses the legal process to get these documents out.” Click here for video.
